Hummingbird
A little hover, held in steel.
Some people can spot a hummingbird before anyone else notices the blur. This one gives them time to look. A fine beak, open wings and a flowering branch capture a backyard favorite in a rare moment of stillness. Place it where you can enjoy the details from your window or favorite chair.
Steel that changes with the seasons
Corten is weathering steel. Its gray surface changes through orange and brown tones outdoors as a natural rust patina develops. Each setting leaves its own mark, so color and timing vary. Allow water to drain and keep rusty runoff away from pale stone, walls and other surfaces that could stain.
Choose a perch. Tap it in.
Choose sound, solid wood with space around the silhouette. Hold the branch securely, angle the mounting spike slightly downward and tap the thick end with a hammer or mallet until steady. Hard wood may need a pilot hole. Wear gloves and eye protection, and keep the pointed spike away from children. A fence post or timber planter is a useful alternative to a living tree.

Frequently asked questions
What is it made from?
American Corten weathering steel, cut and made in the USA.
Will it rust or stain?
Yes. Natural rust patina is part of Corten steel. Runoff can stain nearby surfaces, especially while weathering; choose the location with that in mind.
How big is it?
4.3 in high × 5.5 in wide, excluding the branch; approximately 8 oz.
How do I install it?
Choose sound, solid wood with space around the silhouette. Hold the branch securely, angle the mounting spike slightly downward and tap the thick end with a hammer or mallet until steady. Hard wood may need a pilot hole. Wear gloves and eye protection, and keep the pointed spike away from children. A fence post or timber planter is a useful alternative to a living tree.
Do I have to use a tree?
No. Use sound timber such as a fence post or wooden planter. If you prefer a living tree, consult the tree-care guidance in our Help Centre and choose the site carefully; no tree-safety guarantee is implied.
What comes with it?
One connected steel silhouette with integrated mounting spike, gift packaging, brand booklet and postcard. Hammer or mallet not included.
Can I return it?
Request a return within 30 days of delivery. Keep it unused, uninstalled and in original condition, without weathering, patina or marks. Contact info@metalbird.com first; return postage is yours unless Metalbird made a mistake.
AS SEEN IN
Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.
When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.
That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.
This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.
The Patina Process:
At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.
The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.
