The Nuthatch is a perennially favourite among backyard birds. They earn their name from the way they crack open seeds. Nuthatches jam their seeds and nuts into tree bark, and then will whack them with their beak to bear them open. Get it…Nut Hatchers! Also known by toddlers as “That Funny Upside-down Bird”, a Nuthatchers foot has one big toe that faces backward, while its other three toes face forward. This allows it to creep head first down tree trunks while searching cracks and crevices for insects. Our Nuthatch stands proudly upright, but you’re welcome to tap it in upside down if you’re keen to keep the kids happy.
Our Nuthatch is:
Our birds are designed with 1/8-inch CorTen steel to form a protective patina that deepens and strengthens with the seasons. This patina will deepen in shade over the years until it reaches a deep brown/charcoal black hue.
This self-sealing aspect of CorTen steel provides a quality guarantee of up to 100 years, ensuring that our product lasts a lifetime and remains completely corrosion resistent.
What might initially resemble generic rust is simply the air and water-tight patina forming over a six month period, so don’t panic! Your Metalbird is doing exactly what it’s been designed to do, and this patina will protect the steel from any further damage and disintegration.
CorTen steel does not require any treatments, oils or chemical additives and is therefore extremely environmentally friendly.

MADE WITH PREMIUM 1/8 inch CORTEN STEEL
Over the years we’ve tried everything in our quest to find the perfect Metalbird material and believe Corten Steel is it. Corten Steel or ‘Weathering Steel’ is used in high-end exterior architecture, for good reason. Exposed to the elements, within weeks it develops a patina that seals the steel and preserves it for decades. It also leaves a beautiful even coloring that will get darker over the years.
